Job Description:
Middle Tennessee Christian School (MTCS) is seeking a faith-centered Elementary/Middle School Counselor (TK–8) to support students’ social, emotional, spiritual, and behavioral development through small groups, short-term individual counseling, family support, academic support, behavior interventions, and character education leadership. This role advances our mission by helping students grow into well-rounded, self-disciplined, responsible individuals who make positive contributions to their family, church, and community.

Primary Responsibilities:
Provide services within the following areas- Spiritual Development, Academic Development, Social/Emotional Development, and consult with HS School Counselor for College and Career planning and career fairs, through conferences held with students on the basis of teacher, parent, principal, or self-referral.
Provide small group counseling focused on social skills, emotional regulation, peer relationships, executive functioning, and coping strategies.
Deliver short-term individual counseling for students experiencing social, emotional, academic, or behavioral challenges.
Conduct direct student observations, as needed, to assess social-emotional or behavioral concerns.
Maintain appropriate documentation and confidentiality in accordance with school policy.
Serve as an active member of the Student Support Team, collaborating with administrators, teachers, and families to ensure students exhibiting social/emotional difficulties are supported appropriately.
Participate in problem-solving meetings and assist in developing individualized support strategies.
Assist teachers with classroom management techniques, behavior supports, and restorative practices.
Provide professional guidance to faculty on social-emotional development and behavior management best practices.
Partner with families to support student well-being.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date permanent records and assist with new student enrollment and student transfers.
Work with the high school counselor to organize and create the master schedule and work to schedule students accordingly.
Be part of academic testing such as MAP and understand, evaluate, and interpret data to make educational decisions.
Connect families with appropriate community-based resources (counseling services, therapeutic supports, social services, etc.) when longer-term or specialized care is needed.
With the support of a team of educators, lead the organization, planning, and implementation of the elementary school’s Character Education Pillar System and middle school’s Cougars with Character program.
Other duties as assigned by leadership teams.

Qualifications:
Master’s degree required in School Counseling, Counseling or related field.
Valid Tennessee School Counselor license (or eligibility).
Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students
Strong knowledge of social-emotional learning (SEL), behavior interventions, and child development.
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, families, and administration.
Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
